| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Trajan facing right, rendered in the typical provincial style of Asia Minor. The portrait displays the characteristic strong features and short-cropped hair of Trajan's official iconography, crowned with a laurel wreath. The Greek legend encircles the effigy in the field, reading partially around the periphery. The flan shows the somewhat irregular fabric common to provincial bronze coinage of the Smyrna conventus. |

| Reverse description | Cybele, the Anatolian mother goddess, enthroned and seated left upon a high-backed throne. She extends her right hand forward holding a patera, while her left arm rests upon a tympanum (ritual drum). A lion, her sacred animal and attribute, crouches at her feet to the left. The reverse type reflects the strong local religious significance of Cybele in the Lydian region around Magnesia ad Sipylum, and the composition follows established Hellenistic iconographic conventions for the deity. The ethnic legend of the issuing city encircles the design. |
