| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Agathodaemon serpent depicted erect and rampant to the right, its body coiled in characteristic fashion, crowned with the double Egyptian crown (skhent). The serpent entwines a caduceus and a stalk of grain (corn), symbolising prosperity and the divine protection of Alexandria. The regnal year legend appears in the field. This reverse type is a hallmark of Alexandrian civic coinage, reflecting the syncretic Greco-Egyptian religious iconography of the Roman provincial mint. |
