| Descripción del reverso | The river god Maeandros reclines to the left in a languid pose, his semi-draped figure resting upon an overturned vase from which water streams forth, symbolising the celebrated winding river of Caria. In his raised right hand he holds a reed, a standard attribute of river deities in provincial coinage. The encircling legend ΑΝΤΙΟΧΕΩΝ identifies the issuing city of Antioch ad Maeandrum. The reverse composition follows established Hellenistic iconographic conventions for the personification of rivers in Asia Minor provincial bronzes. |
