Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Mamaea facing right, depicted as Augusta, with hair arranged in the characteristic Severan style. The effigy is rendered in low relief with visible drapery folds at the shoulder and chest. A Greek legend surrounds the bust in the field, reading ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΑΜΑΙΑ ΑΥΓ. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show patination consistent with a provincial bronze issue.

Reverse description Heracles standing facing, head turned to the right, depicted nude in a contrapposto stance. The hero rests his right hand upon a tall club set on the ground, while his left arm drapes the Nemean lion skin. The encircling Greek ethnic legend ΒΥΖΑΝΤΙΩΝ identifies the issuing city of Byzantion and runs along the periphery of the flan. The reverse type reflects the strong Heraclean iconographic tradition associated with Byzantion's civic coinage.
