| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the typical provincial style of the Ephesian mint. The imperial effigy displays the characteristic short-bearded portrait of Severus with a laurel wreath. The Greek legend encircles the bust in the field, reading from left to right. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show heavy patination consistent with prolonged circulation. |

| Reverse description | Hermes, the divine messenger and patron of commerce, depicted standing to the left in the field. The deity holds a purse in his extended right hand and a caduceus in his left, while his left arm rests upon a column at his side. The composition reflects the city of Ephesus's close association with trade and commerce. The encircling Greek legend around the reverse field proudly proclaims Ephesus's status as a twice-neocorate city, an honorific title of great civic prestige. |
