Poemanenum was a minor Mysian city with little political weight, but its civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the scramble by provincial towns across Asia Minor to declare loyalty quickly after his victory in the civil wars of 193 — the Year of the Four Emperors. Minting in his name was as much a political calculation as an administrative one.
The conventus of Cyzicus administered a sprawling jurisdiction across Mysia and Hellespontine Phrygia, and Poemanenum's output from this period survives in very small numbers.
