Reverse description The reverse bears a multi-line Greek inscription arranged within a laurel wreath, the wreath serving as the sole decorative border framing the text. The legend ΛΑΚΕΔΑΙΜΟΝΙΩΝ, meaning 'of the Lacedaemonians', is inscribed across several lines filling the wreath interior. This civic ethnic type, presenting the city-ethnic within a wreath without an additional figurative device, is characteristic of the autonomous bronze coinage struck at Sparta under Roman imperial authority. The wreath is tied at the base and the flan edges are slightly irregular.
