| Reverse description | Tyche, the tutelary deity of Ephesus, rendered as a standing female figure turned to the left, wearing a kalathos (modius-style basket crown) atop her head and clothed in a long chiton and himation. She extends her right hand downward to hold a ship's rudder resting on the ground, symbolising the city's maritime prosperity, while her left arm cradles a cornucopia overflowing with fruits, emblematic of abundance. The field is plain, and the encircling legend ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ Β ΝΕΟ in the exergual and peripheral area designates Ephesus as the second neokorate city. The execution is typical of the provincial workshop of Ephesus under the reign of Marcus Aurelius. |
