Amisus held the status of a free city under Roman rule — an unusual arrangement secured through treaty and maintained into the imperial period — which is why its civic bronzes carry local era dating rather than regnal years. The designation ΡϙΒ corresponds to year 192 of the Amisene civic era, anchoring this piece to the final months before Marcus Aurelius became sole emperor following the death of Antoninus Pius in March 161.
