Lemnos had a complicated administrative history under Rome — the island passed through Macedonian and Athenian hands before becoming part of the province of Macedonia, and local bronze issues were permitted sporadically as civic coinage rather than any centrally mandated production. RPC I 1733B is among the rarer civic bronzes attributed to the island, with very few specimens recorded in the RPC online database. The ethnic ΛΗΜΝΙ rather than the fuller ΛΗΜΝΙΩΝ suggests an abbreviated issue, possibly a smaller civic run with constrained die production.
