Obverse description Laureate, draped bust of the emperor Hadrian facing right, with a small aegis visible on the left shoulder. The portrait displays the characteristic curled beard and hair of Hadrian rendered in the Hellenistic provincial style. The encircling Greek legend runs along the outer edge of the flan. The die work reflects the refined engraving tradition of the Ephesian mint during the early second century AD.
