正面描述 Diademed and draped bust of Empress Tranquillina facing right, depicted with characteristic hairstyle and imperial diadem. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-3rd century AD. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within the coin's field, naming the empress. The flan is irregular, as is common for hammered provincial bronzes of this period.

附加信息

Nicaea was one of the most prolific civic minting authorities in Bithynia under the Severans and their successors, and continued striking bronze through Gordian III's reign as part of the broader Greek Imperial coinage system that persisted in the eastern provinces long after the western mints had consolidated under imperial control. The city's output under Gordian is substantial enough that die studies have identified considerable variety across the series, though VII.2#1948 occupies a well-documented position within it.

Nicaea and its rival Nicomedia competed openly for the title of metropolis of Bithynia, a rivalry that played out partly through the ambition of their civic coin programs.
