| Reverse description | The youthful hero Hylas is depicted advancing to the right with his head turned back to the left, clad in a chlamys (short military cloak) draped over his shoulders, and carrying a hydria (water vase) in his outstretched hand. The figure is rendered in the lively Hellenistic narrative tradition, alluding to the mythological episode of Hylas fetching water before his abduction by the Naiad nymphs, a legend particularly associated with the region of Cius. The ethnic legend ΚΙΑΝΩΝ is disposed in the field to the right of the figure. |
