| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The youthful imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial style typical of the Ephesian mint, with fine curling hair beneath the laurel wreath. The encircling Greek legend runs along the border of the field. A beaded or dotted border frames the entire obverse design. |
