| Opis rewersu | A river god reclines to the left across the reverse field, his semi-nude figure resting upon an overturned water urn from which water flows, symbolising the local river deity of the Antioch ad Maeandrum region. In his extended hand he holds a reed, an attribute closely associated with river personifications in Hellenistic and Roman provincial iconography. The ethnic legend ΑΝΤΙΟΧΕΩΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing civic authority. The overall style is consistent with the municipal bronze coinage produced at Antioch ad Maeandrum during the reign of Gordian III. The surfaces are heavily corroded, obscuring finer details of the die work. |
