| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus facing right, with curly hair rendered in the characteristic youthful style of the emperor. The portrait is set within a beaded border, with the Greek imperial titulature legend ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ encircling the field. The bust displays paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, consistent with provincial Syrian coinage of the Severan period. The die work reflects the artistic conventions of the Raphanea mint under the early third century AD. |
