| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, portrayed from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter back view typical of eastern provincial issues. The imperial effigy displays a radiate laurel wreath crown, with the paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder and the cuirass visible beneath. A Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The die-work reflects the provincial engraving style of the Cyzicus mint in the early third century AD. |

| Reverse description | A winged caduceus — the herald's staff of Hermes, entwined with two serpents and surmounted by wings — is depicted upright at the centre of the field, resting upon or placed before a stepped altar. The device occupies the majority of the reverse field, framed by the civic legend of Cyzicus. The caduceus, as an emblem of commerce and divine protection, was a favoured type for the prosperous harbour city of Cyzicus. The reverse legend identifies the city and its neocorate status, written in Greek around the periphery. |
