Rhesaena, a garrison town on the Khabur River in northern Mesopotamia, was one of a handful of provincial mints operating under Roman oversight in a region Rome never fully pacified. Elagabalus's reign produced a modest run of provincial bronzes from this mint, likely tied to local military pay needs rather than any imperial directive from Rome.
The VI#7902 reference places this among a thinly documented group — Rhesaena's output is poorly represented in major collections, and die studies remain incomplete.
