背面描述 A nude or lightly draped male rider, likely a heroic equestrian figure, seated on a horse advancing to the right in a dynamic pose, the animal's legs raised in a trotting gait. The two-line Greek inscription ΔΙΑ ΜΕΝΙΠΠΟΥ, indicating the magistrate Menippos through whom the coin was issued, is distributed in the field to the upper right and lower right of the central type. The scene is enclosed within a beaded border, with the legend partially continuing around the periphery.

附加信息

Attuda, a Carian city of modest political standing, issued this bronze under the magistrate Menippos during the Flavian-to-Trajanic window — a period when Greek civic mints across Asia Minor were aggressively reasserting local identity through bronze coinage, partly because the Roman imperial administration had largely withdrawn from supervising small civic issues. The obverse authority here is Demos itself, the personified citizenry, which was an ideological choice: presenting the people, rather than a magistrate or emperor, as the issuing power signals a community leaning hard into the conventions of civic autonomy.

RPC II 1229 records very few specimens, and the BMC entry (RE 6) draws from a similarly thin base.
