Samos struck bronze coinage under the Roman provincial system as part of the Miletus conventus — one of the judicial districts through which Rome administered the Greek East. Caracalla's reign saw a marked surge in civic bronze output across Ionia, partly driven by the emperor's extended presence in the eastern provinces during his campaigns against Parthia from 216 onward. Local magistrates used such issues as much for civic prestige as for practical exchange.
