The encircling Greek legend naming the emperor and the proconsul Aviolus runs around the field. The portrait displays the slightly aquiline features associated with Caligula's official coinage in the eastern provinces. |

A Greek legend encircles the field naming Germanicus and Agrippina as honorands of the city of Smyrna under the magistrate Menophanes. The composition emphasises the dynastic prestige of Caligula's parents as a legitimising motif. |
