Cius, a port city on the Propontis, had a long habit of issuing bronze coinage under Roman authority that emphasized local civic identity rather than imperial flattery. The joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus — ended violently when Valerian was captured by Shapur I at the Battle of Edessa in 260, the only Roman emperor ever taken prisoner in the field — makes precise dating within this window consequential. Coins issued after 260 would have dropped Valerian's name from civic bronzes across the eastern provinces.
