Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gallienus facing right, depicted from behind in the characteristic three-quarter rear view typical of later provincial coinage. The effigy is rendered in moderate relief, with the laurel wreath and military paludamentum discernible despite surface wear. A Greek legend encircles the bust in the field, reading ΑΥΤ Κ ΠΟ ΛΙ ΓΑΛΛΙΗΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature.

Aanvullende informatie

Samos sat within the conventus of Miletus during the joint reign, meaning civic coinage issued here was subject to the administrative oversight of the Roman proconsul of Asia rather than any direct imperial mint authority. The island had a long tradition of autonomous bronze production, and issues naming both Valerian and Gallienus as co-emperors help narrow the date range to before Valerian's capture by Shapur I at Edessa in 260 — after which sole-reign types for Gallienus dominate the regional output.
