Magnesia ad Sipylum, a Lydian city on the Hermus River, held religious significance as one of the claimed sites of Niobe's transformation — a detail local civic coinage periodically exploited for prestige. Under Severus Alexander, provincial bronze production across the Smyrna conventus intensified as the emperor's relatively stable thirteen-year reign allowed civic mints unusual continuity. The VI#4660 reference places this within a well-catalogued but sparsely populated type; individual die studies for Magnesian bronzes of this period remain incomplete.
