Reverse description Dionysus stands facing with head turned to the left, depicted in the classical divine manner. In his right hand he holds an elongated thyrsus — the staff of the god — while his left hand extends a cantharus (wine cup) downward toward a panther positioned at his feet to the left. The panther, sacred animal of Dionysus, gazes upward toward the deity. The ethnic legend of the issuing city is inscribed around the reverse field, identifying the coin as a civic issue of Ionopolis.
