| Reverse description | Frontal view of a tetrastyle or distyle shrine with two columns supporting an arcuated (arched) lintel, within which stands Nemesis facing front, head turned to the left, holding scales in one hand and a globe and sword (or sceptre) in the other; at her feet lies a wheel, her traditional attribute. The composition is framed by the colonial legend C I F S A and the civic year numeral CCXCIIII, denoting year 294 of Sinope's local era. The architectural framing and iconography of Nemesis are consistent with the religious and judicial symbolism common to Pontic civic bronzes of the third century. |
