Reverse description Demeter, goddess of grain and the harvest, stands facing with her head turned to the left, depicted in long chiton and himation in the conventional provincial Greek manner. She holds a tall sceptre in her left hand and ears of corn in her right hand, emblems of her divine attributes and of Sardis's agricultural prosperity. The circular Greek legend surrounding the field identifies the city and its twice-neocorate status. The heavily corroded bronze flan obscures fine detail but the standing figure and principal attributes remain identifiable.
