| 背面描述 | The river god Hermos, personification of the principal river of Lydia flowing near Temnus, is depicted reclining to the left in the classical tradition of river-deity iconography. The semi-nude figure reclines upon an overturned water urn from which streams issue, and holds a long reed in his extended hand. The composition fills the field with an assured, if provincially executed, sculptural quality typical of Smyrnaean conventus bronzes of the mid-third century AD. The encircling legend ΤΗΜΝΕΙΤΩΝ ΕΡΜΟϹ identifies both the issuing city and the deity represented. |
