Cotiaeum, modern Kütahya in Phrygia, was a mid-tier provincial center whose civic coinage under Philip I reflects the brief administrative reorganization of the Conventus of Synnada. The magistrate name partially preserved in the obverse legend — Γ ΙΟΥ ΠΟΝΤΙΚΟΥ — identifies a local archon whose tenure aligns with Philip's reign following his murky rise to power after Gordian III died on the Persian campaign in 244.

Provincial Phrygian bronzes of this period are frequently misattributed between conventus districts, making the ΑΡΧ designation here a useful anchor for correct placement.
