Latopolis — modern Esna — was a cult center of the Nile perch deity Neith, and the nome coinage issued under Hadrian for this district reflects his administration's deliberate policy of engaging with Egyptian religious geography at the provincial level. Hadrian visited Egypt in 130 AD, a journey that shaped imperial policy toward the region for the remainder of his reign.
