Hadrian visited Corinth at least twice — in 124 and again in 128 AD — and the city's colonial coinage intensified noticeably around these imperial visits. The abbreviation COL L IVL COR, marking Corinth as a Laus Iulia colony, preserves the city's refounding under Julius Caesar in 44 BC, the same year of his assassination, making it one of Rome's last personally ordered colonial establishments.
