Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Aelius Caesar facing right, with curly hair rendered in fine detail, draped at the shoulder. The circular Greek legend Λ ΑΙΛΙΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ surrounds the effigy, identifying the subject as Lucius Aelius Caesar, Hadrian's adopted heir. The portrait is executed in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Pergamene bronze coinage of the Hadrianic period.

Reverse description An agonistic prize table depicted in frontal view, supported by four legs, upon which rests a large globular urn flanked by two wreath crowns, emblematic of athletic or gladiatorial games. A palm branch, the classical symbol of victory, is shown in the exergue beneath the table. The ethnic legend ΠΕΡΓΑΜΗΝΩΝ is inscribed around the upper field, attributing the issue to the citizens of Pergamum. The type alludes to the prestigious sacred games held at Pergamum under imperial patronage.
