Nysa-Scythopolis sat astride the Maeander valley in Lydia, and its civic bronze issues under Gordian III belong to a well-documented burst of local minting activity that accompanied his eastern campaigns against Shapur I. The city's coins from this period are catalogued in Bürrer's corpus under the Ephesus conventus grouping, reflecting the administrative reorganization of Asia Minor under the Severan dynasty that persisted into Gordian's reign.
