Hadriani ad Olympum, a modest Mysian city at the foot of Mount Olympus, held the right to strike provincial bronze under Gordian III — a privilege that depended entirely on local magistrates petitioning the imperial administration. The magistrate named in the obverse legend, Epaphroditos, is otherwise unattested in the historical record, making this coin one of the only surviving traces of his archonship.
