Additional information

Galba's reign lasted just seven months before his murder in January 69 AD, making any provincial bronze struck in his name inherently scarce by attrition of time. This Theban issue names the local magistrate Pemptidos in the inscription — one of the few pieces of evidence we have for this individual's tenure. The Greek cities of Achaea had been granted nominal freedom by Nero in 67 AD, a status Vespasian later revoked, giving this coin a remarkably narrow political window.
