The drapery is rendered with finely incised folds over the right shoulder, characteristic of provincial Bithynian die-cutting. The ethnic legend ΙΟΥΛΙΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ curves around the field, identifying the issuing civic authority of Iuliopolis. The reverse design reflects the widespread veneration of Sarapis in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire during the Antonine period. |
