Reverse description Frontal view of a hexastyle temple, depicting the sanctuary atop Acrocorinth, the prominent citadel hill of Corinth. The temple is rendered with six columns visible across the facade, surmounted by a pediment, set upon a stepped podium or stylobate. The surrounding Latin legend names the presiding duoviri responsible for the coin's issuance. The architectural representation is a recurring civic type on Corinthian colonial bronzes, celebrating the city's prominent cult site.

Additional information

Corinth's colonial coinage under Claudius was administered by locally appointed duoviri — the IIVIR designation here naming Licinus and Octavius as the magistrates responsible for this issue. The colony had been refounded by Julius Caesar in 44 BC on the site of the city destroyed by Mummius in 146 BC, and its Roman magistrate coinage reflects a thoroughly Latin civic identity unusual among Greek provincial mints. The iteration mark ITER indicates one or both magistrates held the duovirate for a second term.
