This issue belongs to a narrow window in Augustus's career: the eighth consulship ran through 26 BC, while the ninth was already designated — a dual titulature that dates the coin with unusual precision to a single year. Cyprus had only recently been transferred from senatorial to imperial province in 27 BC, placing it directly under Augustan administration. The koinon's swift adoption of updated imperial titulature reflects how rapidly provincial minting authorities aligned themselves with the new order emanating from Rome.
RPC I 3906 is a scarce type. The island's bronze output under Augustus is modest compared to eastern Greek mints of the same period.
