Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The radiate crown, composed of pointed spikes, identifies the imperial effigy, while the paludamentum draped over the cuirass denotes his military and imperial authority. The encircling Greek legend names the emperor in the nominative form, running around the periphery of the field.
