Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, portrayed three-quarter view from the rear in the characteristic provincial style of the Ephesian mint. The effigy displays a radiate crown of laurel and military attire with visible pauldron detail. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ ΠΟ ΛΙΚ ΒΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature as Imperator Caesar Publius Licinius Valerianus. The die work is bold and in relatively high relief, consistent with mid-third-century Ionian provincial coinage.
