Thyatira, a Lydian city better known to later generations as one of the Seven Churches addressed in Revelation, was a significant textile and dyeing center during the Severan period — its trade guilds among the most organized in Asia Minor. Provincial bronze of this type was issued by civic authority under the Roman conventus system, with Pergamum serving as the administrative hub through which such local coinage was sanctioned.
