| Reverse description | The river god Hermos depicted as a reclining male figure turned to the left, his semi-nude body supported on his left arm as he leans against an overturned urn or vase from which water flows, symbolising the river's source. In his right hand he holds a reed, and in his left a cornucopia, attributes conventional to river deity iconography in Greco-Roman provincial coinage. The figure occupies the full width of the reverse field in a composition characteristic of Lydian civic bronzes. The encircling Greek legend names both the issuing city and the deity represented. |
