| Reverse description | Artemis, the divine patroness of the hunt, is depicted seated sideways atop a stag bounding to the left, holding a torch upright in her hand. The composition reflects the local religious iconography of Mytilene on Lesbos, where Artemis held a prominent cult role. The stag is rendered in profile with legs extended in motion. The ethnic legend ΜΥΤΙΛΗΝΑΙΩΝ occupies the field around the figural group, identifying the issuing city. The overall strike is somewhat weak, typical of the small provincial bronze issues of this series. |
