| 背面描述 | A frontal view of an octastyle temple with eight columns set upon a stepped podium, rendered in the schematic style typical of Bithynian provincial coinage. A pellet or acroterion is visible within the pediment, and the architectural details of the entablature and steps are clearly delineated. The temple type alludes to Nicomedia's status as a twice-neocorate city, honoring the imperial cult. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the city's prestigious religious title. A pierced hole is present at the upper rim of the coin. |

Nicomedia's neokorate titles — the honorific right to maintain an imperial cult temple, awarded by Rome — were fiercely contested among Bithynian cities, and the ΔΙϹ ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ legend ("twice neokoros") advertises the city's standing at a moment when Septimius Severus was actively rewarding loyalist cities following the civil wars against Pescennius Niger and Clodius Albinus. Nicomedia had backed the right man.
