| Beschrijving keerzijde | Dionysus, god of wine, depicted standing left in full figure, his body rendered in a relaxed contrapposto pose typical of Hellenistic artistic convention. He extends his right hand to hold a cantharus (wine cup) and carries a long thyrsus — the fennel-topped staff sacred to his cult — in his left hand. The ethnic legend ΑΔΡΑΜΥΤΗΝΩΝ, identifying the issuing city of Adramyteum in Mysia, is distributed around the figure in the field. The surface shows considerable patination and wear consistent with a circulated provincial bronze. |
