Philip I's reign coincided with Rome's millennial celebrations of 248 AD, and provincial mints across Asia Minor saw elevated striking activity as the emperor sought visibility in the eastern provinces. Laodicea ad Lycum, sitting in the fertile Lycus valley of Phrygia, was one of the more prolific civic mints of the Conventus of Cibyra during this period — its issues are numerous but individual types remain modestly scarce in collectible condition given the soft provincial bronze typically used.
