Corinth's colonial coinage under Nero reflects the city's unusual status as a Roman refoundation — Julius Caesar re-established the colony in 44 BC on the ruins of the Greek city destroyed by Mummius in 146 BC. The duoviri whose names appear on these local bronzes held the senior magistracy of the colonia, and their tenure could be precisely tied to a single year of office, making dated attribution unusually reliable for provincial bronze of this period.
This piece dates to the very opening of Nero's reign, within a year of Claudius's death in October 54 AD.
