| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Nero facing right, depicted with draped shoulders in the Alexandrian provincial style. The effigy shows the characteristic youthful portraiture of Nero's early reign, rendered with bold relief typical of Egyptian provincial coinage. A Greek legend encircles the bust in the field, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hammered bronze coinage of Roman Alexandria. |

Year 10 of Nero's reign in Egypt, which this coin marks with the regnal date L Ι, corresponded to a period of relative administrative stability in the province — but only just. The Alexandrian mint was already navigating the fiscal pressures that would culminate in the debasement of the provincial tetradrachm under Nero himself, who reduced its silver content dramatically around this same time.
