| Obverse description | Draped bust of Claudia Octavia, wife of Nero, facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and adorned with a wreath of ears of corn, rendered in the Greek provincial portrait style. The legend ΘΕΑΝ ΟΚΤΑΟΥΙΑΝ curves around the bust, identifying her with divine honours as 'divine Octavia'. The portrait exhibits the finely layered drapery typical of Julio-Claudian provincial coinage from the Sardis mint. |
