Obverse description Draped bust of Claudia Octavia, wife of Nero, facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and adorned with a wreath of ears of corn, rendered in the Greek provincial portrait style. The legend ΘΕΑΝ ΟΚΤΑΟΥΙΑΝ curves around the bust, identifying her with divine honours as 'divine Octavia'. The portrait exhibits the finely layered drapery typical of Julio-Claudian provincial coinage from the Sardis mint.

Reverse description A veiled female figure, likely a personification of the city or a goddess, stands in three-quarter view facing right, wearing a long chiton and himation, holding a tall sceptre in her left hand. The composition is rendered in the linear style characteristic of Lydian civic bronzes of the mid-first century AD. The encircling Greek legend names the city of Sardis and the magistrate responsible for the issue, divided into two lines around the field.
