| Obverse description | Draped bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in low relief in the Hellenistic provincial tradition. The portrait, now heavily worn and corroded, occupies the central field of the flan. The surrounding Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΗΡΩΔΗΣ ΦΙΛΟΚΛΑΥΔΙΟΣ, proclaiming Herod as king and friend of Claudius, runs along the coin's periphery.
